What Happens When Access Runs Out

This is the question worth getting a straight answer to before you set a price, because the answer is different depending on where your community actually lives.

In a room hosted on Trankets

Access ends. The person can no longer read the room, and the page tells them their access has lapsed rather than pretending nothing happened.

That is the whole of it. Nothing for you to do, nobody to remove.

In your own WhatsApp or Telegram group

Access to the invite link ends. The person can no longer fetch it from their receipt or the page.

They are not removed from the group, because it is your group and no outside tool can reach into it and take somebody out. Anyone already in the room stays in the room.

This is not a gap waiting to be fixed. It is what it means to keep your community somewhere you control.

So what do you do about it

Two things, and you can use either or both.

Rotate the invite link. From your dashboard, replace the group's invite with a new one. Old links stop working, so anyone who saved the link, forwarded it to a friend, or lapsed months ago cannot get back in with it. Your paying members are unaffected: they fetch the current link from their receipt. We show you when you last rotated, because on an external group this is the thing that gives expiry teeth.

Remove people from the group yourself. The same way you always would, in the app.

If your programme runs in cohorts, rotate the link at the end of each one. It takes a moment and it means each cohort's link only ever works for that cohort.

What happens on a refund

Access goes when the refund does, automatically, in both kinds of community.

Membership is worked out from the purchase itself rather than from a list somebody has to keep updated, so there is no window where a refunded buyer is still holding access because nobody remembered to take it off them. In a room hosted here they lose access straight away. In your own group they lose the ability to fetch the invite, and rotation is again your tool if it matters.

Changing your mind about the length

If you extend how long access lasts, everyone gets the longer window, including people who had already lapsed. They come back in.

That sounds surprising the first time you read it, and it is almost always what you meant: someone raising the number is normally saying "actually, this should have been longer for everybody", not "this should be longer for new buyers only".

Shortening it works the same way in reverse. People whose window has now passed will lose access, so check the number before you save it.

Closing a room

Closing stops new people joining and frees a slot on your plan. It does not delete anything, and you can open it again whenever you want.

For an external group, closing means nobody new can reach your invite link through Trankets. It does not empty your WhatsApp or Telegram group, for the same reason as everything else on this page.

If absolute expiry matters to you, host the room here. Everyone who already bought keeps their access, nobody pays twice, and it is one setting.
