Creating Your First Email Campaign

Your contact list only pays off when you actually talk to it. This guide takes you from a blank campaign to a personalized email in your audience's inbox - with a test in your own inbox first.

What You Will Learn

  • Create a campaign and pick its audience
  • Personalize with merge fields like first name
  • Preview and test-send before committing
  • Send now or schedule for later

Where It Lives

Newsletters in your dashboard - Campaigns is the list, Subscribers shows everyone available to receive your emails (it is the same list as your contacts).

Creating and drafting campaigns works on every plan. Sending newsletters unlocks on paid plans - if you are on the free plan, this is the feature most sellers upgrade for first, because it is how the contact list you have been building starts paying rent.

Before You Start

Newsletters need an email identity to send from. In Settings → Email Settings, choose your provider: Google (Gmail / Workspace), SMTP (any provider), or Trankets Email if you want zero setup.

Step 1: Create the Campaign

  1. Go to Newsletters and click Create Newsletter.
  2. Give it a subject - the one line that decides whether it gets opened.
  3. Design the email in the editor.
Click Improve with AI (the sparkle button) in the editor toolbar to sharpen whichever field you are in - the subject line or the body. Tweak the result, apply in one tap. Available on every plan.

Step 2: Personalize

Use the merge-field picker in the editor toolbar to drop in first name, last name, full name, or email - each with a fallback for contacts missing the detail, so nobody gets "Hi , ". A subject line with a first name in it consistently out-opens one without.

Step 3: Pick the Audience

Select one or more contact groups right in the editor. The recipient estimate reads "up to N" because the send deduplicates across groups and drops unsubscribed contacts automatically - the real number only ever shrinks. No groups yet? Create one under Contacts first.

Step 4: Test, Then Send

  1. Preview shows the rendered email.
  2. Send test to me puts a copy in your own inbox - read it on your phone, since that is where your audience will.
  3. Click Review & Send. The review modal shows your audience and reach, with a toggle between Send now and Schedule. Confirm with Send Campaign (or Schedule Campaign).

What happens on send

Your monthly email quota is checked and reserved, the status moves to Sending, and delivery begins. Quota spent on unsubscribed contacts is refunded after delivery.

Campaign Statuses

StatusMeaning
DraftSaved, not sent.
ScheduledQueued for a future time - still editable, cancellable with Cancel Schedule.
SendingDelivering now.
SentDone - stats available from the campaign list.
FailedSomething stopped it - fix the cause and send again.

You can also duplicate any campaign into a new draft from the list - your monthly update should never start from zero.

Quota

Every plan carries a monthly email allowance and a newsletter count, both rising with each tier - the current numbers for every plan are on the pricing page, and your own usage lives under Billing → Usage This Period. Event reminders draw from the same monthly allowance.

Track Performance

After sending, open the campaign's stats from the Newsletters list - delivery, opens, clicks, unsubscribes, and bounces. Honest numbers, derived from what actually happened.

Common Issues

  • Cannot create a campaign. Connect an email provider (or select Trankets Email) in Settings first.
  • "Not available on your current plan." Sending newsletters is a paid-plan feature - see pricing.
  • Not enough quota. Upgrade or wait for the monthly reset.
  • Reach lower than expected. Deduplication and unsubscribes - both are protecting your sender reputation.
